What Happened on Thursday May 28:
Steve Bons says –
OK. This was the last day of events for the Crystal Diamond Retreat 2009 in Phuket, Thailand. Today we had breakouts in the morning where we discussed some new products and reformulations. Many distributors took advantage of the time to ask questions and interact with corporate staff.
After that, a group of more than 30 distributors went to ride elephants. At the elephant camp, there was a demonstration on how they use monkeys to pick coconuts. Also, everyone got to sit on a water buffalo, including myself. In fact, I was the only one to be able to ride the wild beast for several yards. After that we saw a short demonstration on Thai cooking, and the samples were delicious. Then we saw a demonstration on how they process fresh rubber and how they make products out of it. Just before the elephant ride, we saw three baby elephants. The elephants danced, played the harmonica, and played soccer. Yes, this really happened. That was a lot of fun. The ride just about rocked me to sleep. The distributors also had the opportunity to also feed the elephants.
A few of the distributors also helped themselves with a local bicycle food vendor. The corn smelled amazing.
That evening, we had the closing gala and dinner. There was a wide array of Thai food complete with Thai music, dancers, Thai boxing, and sword fighting. Also on hand were several chair massage therapists.

After a morning of elephant and water buffalo rides, we gathered in the evening for the final gala. With that, the curtains were closed on this year’s Crystal event. The gala featured local cultural arts performances. The dancing was elegant, inspiring a feeling of inner peace. In contrast, the martial arts presentations were exhilarating. The performances capped off a night a fabulous local food, chair massages, flower making, and fruit art. The cultural aspects of Thailand were a perfect backdrop to week of meetings big and small, and everyone providing direction for the year to come. Set your goals to join us next year in another tropical and exotic location!

スティーブ・ボンズの言葉―
さて、今日はプーケットで開かれた２００９年クリスタル・ダイヤモンド・リトリートの最終日でした。朝はブレークアウト・セッションで新製品や新改良の製品について学び、多くのディストリビューターの方々は質問できる機会や本社スタッフと語り合う時間を楽しまれたようです。
その後は、３０名以上のディストリビューターの方々と一緒に象乗りツアーに出かけました。象のキャンプ場では、猿によるココナッツ採取のデモンストレーションもありました。また、水牛に乗るときは私も皆さんと一緒に参加したんですが、実は、しばらく乗り続けることができたのは私だけだったんですよ。他にもタイ料理の作り方やその試食、ゴム作りのデモンストレーションやそれを使った物づくりなども体験しました。象乗りツアーの前は３匹の小象を見学しました。象たちは、ダンスやハーモニカの演奏だけでなく、サッカーもできるんです。驚きましたね。象に乗って揺られているとそのまま眠ってしまいました。ディストリビューターの方々は象にエサをあげるのも楽しんでいました。
タイでは自転車に食べ物を乗せて売り歩く人々がいるんですが、ディストリビューターの方も何人か試していたみたいです。とうもろこしのおいしそうな匂いがしていたのを思い出します。
この日の夜はイベントの締めくくりとなるガラ・ディナーでした。豊富な種類のタイ料理はもちろん、タイ音楽、ダンサー、タイボクシング、そして剣術、さらにはマッサージが用意されました。

What happened on Wednesday May 27:
Jennifer Wolbers says–
Sea canoeing is nothing like you would expect. Before we left I had visualized getting in a canoe and paddling in a predetermined direction. No, this was not the experience at all. We arrived in the morning at the harbor and boarded a boat loaded with inflatable canoes. Beyond the harbor were thousands of small and large islands covered with rocks and vegetation. We traveled in the boat about an hour and arrived our first destination. It was an island that had caves and canals that led to the lagoon within the island. We got in canoes (two to a canoe) with a guide who paddled. The guide led us to the amazing lagoon and explained the animals, fish, and history of a place you would never find on your own.
After canoeing, we had a fabulous gourmet lunch, followed by swimming and water fun. The next two stops had to be timed perfectly with the tide. If the tide was too high it would flood the caves and chambers we would be canoing into. If the tide was too low, there would not be enough sea water to float upon. Through canals carved in low-ceiling caves we paddled to a lagoon completely concealed by rock. The 150-meters of caves were so low and narrow at points that air had to let out of the canoes to accommodate the height. Plus, you had to lie completely flat in the canoe or your nose would hit the rock above. The whole eight-hour adventure was an experience of a lifetime.
Steve Bons says –
We went sea kayaking today. It rained all the way till we started going out, then it was a light sprinkle, off and on. We saw jelly fish, sea eagles, and walking fish — the missing link in Darwin’s theory of evolution. The water was warm and wonderful.
We went through a number of caves in the kayaks. We had to wait once till the waves calmed down enough to get through some of the low overhangs. We also went into a cave with thousands of bats hanging from the ceiling. With the long train of kayaks, it seemed as though we were on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland…so I broke out in a rousing rendition of the chorus… “Ho, ho, ho, ho! A pirate’s life for me…” — and then there was silence. I guess no one else felt the same way.
Inside the caves was very quiet except for the chirp of crickets — literally! In some places, we had to lie down completely flat in the kayaks to get through, and even then, we just barely had enough clearance to make it. The rock above our heads was about ½ inch from our noses.
The lunch they served back on our boat was amazing! Cooked right in the galley of the boat our lunch consisted of a number of Thai dishes including a coconut soup with lemon grass, crispy fish, breaded shrimp, and a few other dishes. That has been the best Thai food I have yet tasted here in Thailand. It was amazing. In addition to the sea kayaking, there was also a few rousing games of “last-one-standing” on the upside-down kayaks. We also had distributors jumping overboard into the water. By the end of the day, a few of the distributors were so tired they slept as the boat headed back to the docks. They all had great fun during this activity.
Side note: There are gekos everywhere. When you walk down the hallways, there’s one about every couple of feet or so and they run away as you get close to them. They actually look fake. I think Geico is expanding their ad campaign.

シーカヌーツアーは想像以上でした。出発する前は、カヌーに乗ってただ決まったところを漕いでいくものだと思ってましたが、実際は全く想像と違いました。港に着いたあと、空気でふくらませたカヌーをたくさん載せたボートに乗り込みました。港を出ると岩や植物に覆われた大小の島が何千とあらわれました。ボートで１時間ほど移動したのち、洞窟や島内にある礁湖につづく運河がある最初の島に到着しました。ツアー参加者はふたり一組になってガイドが漕ぐカヌーに乗り込みました。ガイドはこの礁湖や島の動物、魚、島の歴史など、我々ではわからないようなことをていねいに説明してくれました。
カヌーツアーのあとは豪華なおいしいランチを食べて、水泳や水遊びで楽しみました。次のカヌーツアー場所へは潮のタイミングを計っていかなければなりません。潮が満ちすぎると洞窟が水でうもれてしまい、引きすぎるとカヌーが浮くほどの水がなくなるからです。完全に岩で覆われた礁湖まで、低い天井の洞窟の中を漕いでいきました。カヌーの空気を少し抜かないと通れないほど天井が低くてせまい洞窟を１５０メートルほど行きました。しかもその間私たちはカヌーの上で完全に寝転がなければ鼻が天井にあたるほどでした。本当に人生に一度の体験といえるほどすばらしい８時間のツアーでした。
スティーブ・ボンズから－
今日はシーカヤックツアーでした。出発するまでずっと雨が降っていて、そのあとも小雨がふったりやんだりしていました。クラゲやウミワシ、そしてダーウィンの進化論上の「失われた輪」である生物だというウォーキング・フィッシュなどを見ました。海水は温かくて最高でした。
カヤックで洞窟をいくつも通りましたが、天井の低い場所を通るときには波がおだやかになるのを待たなければなりませんでした。またコウモリが何千も生息する洞窟の中も通りました。たくさん並んだカヤックで移動する我々はまるでディズニーランドの「カリブの海賊」のようでした・・・。というわけで私は海賊になりきって「ホーホーホー」と叫びました・・・が、そのあとシーンと周りは静まり返り、海賊気分だったのはどうやら私だけだと気づきました。
洞窟内はコオロギの鳴き声がするだけでとても静かでした。ある箇所では参加者はみなカヤックに完全に横にならなければならず、それでもやっと通過できるほどの高さしかありませんでした。鼻先から洞窟の天井まで１、２センチあるかないかという場所もあったくらいです。
ボートに戻って食べたツアーのランチは最高でした！ボートの調理場で作られた、レモングラス入りのココナツスープや揚げ魚、エビフライなどのタイ料理の数々はとてもおいしかったです。ここ現地でこれまで食べたタイ料理の中でも一番でした。シーカヤックのほかにも、ひっくり返したカヤックの上に立ち、誰が最後まで残れるかといったゲームをして楽しんだり、またボートから水の中に飛び込むディストリビューターの方もいらっしゃいました。ツアーの終わりの港への帰路では、すっかり疲れてボートで眠る方もいらっしゃいました。本当に楽しい一日でした。
追記：ちなみにタイにはヤモリがそこら中にいます。ホテルの廊下を歩いていると１メートルごとにヤモリがいて、私たちが近づくにつれ一匹一匹逃げていきます。ただこのヤモリは本物には見えず、私が思うに、ヤモリをキャラクターに使用しているアメリカの保険会社があるのですが、この保険会社がホテルで大々的に広告キャンペーンしてるんじゃないでしょうか。

What Happened on Tuesday May 26:
Steve Bons says –
Today was the second general session where executives held a question-and-answer session.
After the session, I set up my equipment to film Eric and Jennifer for a new Durian video and the monthly online video message. It had been raining steadily, but it stopped just long enough to film them. They both got there a little late after being in meetings all afternoon with distributors. After their shoot, I downloaded the footage, and by the time I was about to go back out to capture some more video of the scenery, the wind kicked up and the rain came pouring down.
We went out to dinner at the resort’s Italian restaurant tonight. Jennifer and her family came to eat at the same place with a couple of distributors. We were all serenaded during the night from some wandering guitarists. It was great fun. We are all looking forward to the sea kayaking tomorrow.

ジェネラル・セッション２日目の今日は、参加者と経営陣との質疑応答が行われました。
セッションのあと、私はエリックとジェニファーによる新しいドリアンのビデオとマンスリービデオメッセージを撮影するために機材を用意していました。その日は雨でしたが、うまい具合に雨がやんだ合間を縫って撮影することができました。その日二人は午後中行われたディストリビューターとのミーティングのあとに撮影場所にあらわれました。撮影が終わり映像をダウンロードし終わったあと、私はもう少し景色を撮影しようと外に出ようとした瞬間、風が急に強くなって雨がものすごい勢いで降り出しました。
夜はホテル内のイタリアンレストランでディナーを食べたのですが、同じレストランにジェニファーとその家族も、数名のディストリビューターと一緒に食事にきました。その夜は私たち全員、ギタリストが奏でる曲を聴きながら食事を楽しみました。とても楽しい時間でした。明日はシーカヤックツアーです。これもとても楽しみです。

What Happened on Monday May 25:
On a personal note, I’d like to say that while the Diamonds were enjoying the rich nightlife of Patong Beach, I was up on my roof at night in the middle of a rainstorm trying to unclog a gutter that was dumping sheets of water into the soil next to our house, creating a swamp that threatened to flood one of the downstairs bedrooms. As I perched on my roof, shivering and soaked, I was pondering my karma. Here’s my conclusion: I must have been a real scoundrel in a previous existence. Or, perhaps not: I am clutching a cold, refreshing Diet Mountain Dew as I type this, which tips the scales in favor of my saintliness in a previous incarnation.
In any case, the Diamonds had a general session this morning, learning about new products. Then they spent some free time in and around the Marriott resort. And they finished the day at Patong Beach, a famous shopping district.
Jennifer Wolbers says –
We are now officially in day two in Phuket. Last night, we had a fabulous kickoff party with gifts from Thailand, delicious Thai food, and friends from around the world. My favorite food was the shrimp won tons, which is a personal favorite. In fact, the ones that I had last night were the best I’ve ever had: I’m used to the Americanized version. During the opening reception, we were constantly reminded of our tropical surroundings: the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes provided the perfect exotic backdrop to the evening. Even the tropical heat helped us feel like we had stepped into another world. No one needed a sauna after being outside for this moonlit event!
As for today, we had a general business session where we reviewed the key new products for the next year. The leaders here are the very first to hear about all that we have planned. When you qualify for next year’s reward trip, you will be part of these meetings which feature exclusive first-looks at what we will be launching during the year. At this morning’s session, we presented the brand new health and beauty products that we have developed just for you. Be sure to ask someone you know who is here to find out the name of the new skin care line.
We also went to Patong Bay tonight — a bazaar of shops and restaurants along several blocks. It is a bargain shopper’s dream. There are custom-made silk suits, dresses, tailored shirts, and ties. The tailors takes your measurements, then you get to pick the style and fabric, and the next day you get a final fitting. In just two days you have custom-made clothing to pack for the long flight home. Besides that, you will find every knickknack known to man here. The theme of much of the arts and crafts here are elephants. If you are a shopper you can get lost for days.
Steve Bons says –
We had our first general session this morning. Distributors learned a lot about our products and marketing plans. Tonight everyone went to Patong Beach. Distributors walked around the many shops. Some went to a custom tailor to be fitted for suits. The evening was extremely warm. We got back on the bus at 9:30 p.m. Everyone was very tired including myself. I don’t remember anything after the bus pulled off to go back to the resort until we were pulling into the driveway of the hotel. This gap in my memory may explain why I woke up on the bus dressed as a go-go dancer. [OK, Steve didn't really type that last line -- that's me, Chris, the editor. But if Steve did emerge from his blackout dressed as a go-go dancer, do you really think he would admit it? It's all very suspicious if you ask me.]

個人的なことですが、クリスタル・ダイヤモンドの皆さんがパトンビーチで贅沢な夜を過ごしている間、私は激しい雨の降りしきる中自分の家の屋根の雨樋を修理していました。そこから大量の水が庭に流れ出ていて水たまりができ、家の地下の寝室を浸水する危険性があったからです。ずぶ濡れになり震えながら屋根に上っていると、自分のカルマについて考えてしまいました。ずばり結論を言うと、私は前世ではきっとあまり良い行いをしなかったのではと思うのです。いや、でも違うかもしれません、かぜを引きはじめているのにもかかわらず、今こうして仕事をしている私は、前世で聖人だったはずです。
そんな話は置いといて、ダイヤモンドの皆さんは今朝はジェネラル・セッションに参加し、新製品について学んでいらっしゃいました。その後はマリオット・リゾートやその近辺でフリータイムを過ごされていました。夜はショッピング街のパトンビーチ近辺で楽しまれたようです。
ジェニファー・ウォルバーズの言葉―
プーケットでリトリート２日目を迎えました。昨夜はタイのギフトや本場のタイ料理だけでなく、世界各地から集まったディストリビューターの皆さまと共に楽しい時間を過ごしリトリートも好調にスタートしました。私の好きなエビ入りワンタンが出ていたので嬉しかったです。実は昨日食べたエビ入りワンタンは今まで食べた中で一番おいしいと感じました（今まではアメリカ人用に味付けされたものしか食べたことがなかったので）。歓迎レセプションでは、景色、音楽、匂い、そして料理などが本場のトロピカルな雰囲気を常に感じさせてくれました。暑苦しい気候さえも別世界にいるような感覚にさせてくれたので、気になりませんでした。月夜の下で行われたこのイベントの後は誰もサウナに行く必要などなかったでしょうね。

今朝は第１回目のジェネラル・セッションが行われ、ディストリビューターの方々は製品やマーケティング計画について学ばれていました。夜は全員パトンビーチへ行きました。ディストリビューターの方々はたくさんの店を回り、中にはオーダーメイドのスーツを購入している方々もいました。とても暑い夜でした。バスには９時半ごろ戻ったのですが、私も含めて皆さんお疲れのようでした。バスが出発してからホテルに到着するまでは記憶がありません。なので、ホテルに到着してバスの中で目を覚ました時にどうして自分がゴーゴーダンサーの服装をしていたのか覚えていないんです。（なーんて、実は、この最後の文章をタイプしたのはスティーブではなく私クリスです。でももしスティーブが目を覚ました時にゴーゴーダンサーの格好をしていても、彼は絶対認めないと思います。）

Crystal is starting to really get into full swing. Today we are seeing people arriving every hour from Japan, the U.S., and Australia. They look tired as they check in, but the minute they see the beach and resort, there is instant energy. The first official event will be on the beach tonight. Today was arrivals. I had breakfast with a bird that kept trying to get food off my plate. He almost got away with my butter packet. Then, we explored the area for good spots to shoot video. (Went and looked for a spot for Eric’s and Jennifer’s video shoot.) I got sunburned during that.
We had the welcome reception this evening where all the Chrystal Diamonds were greeted by Eric Larsen. They mingled with each other and corporate executives. Everyone had a great time. There was good food, great, live Thai music, and it was great to see everyone.
Koral Reid says –
Today Erica, Nuge (a.k.a Eric Nugent), Bons, and I were sitting outside the deli eating lunch. The view was wonderful looking out over a reflecting pool towards the swimming pool. Very nice and peaceful with pretty plants and cute birds hopping around eating crumbs off of the ground. We were talking and eating and enjoying the scenery and company. I picked up my sandwich to take a bite when one of those cute birds decided it wanted my sandwich. It flew straight at me, wings spread wide and landed on my arm. I, of course, was startled, and when I felt the bird’s feet touch my arm, I thought it had bitten me. I shook my arm and told it to not bite me. I’m sure it was quite a sight to see a bird flying into the middle of us, all of us taken by surprise, and me reprimanding the bird for biting me. Fortunately I was able to protect my food from the scavenger, and all he got was a scolding from me and a chase from the waiters. I’ve attached a picture of the miscreant.
This evening was the opening reception which went well. Everyone enjoyed catching up with old friends and making new ones. There was traditional Thai music and some wonderful Thai food. We gave each of the attendees a gift bag which included a silk elephant from Jim Thompson, the top silk designer in Thailand, along with a tie and scarf designed specifically for this event.

このリトリートも本格的に始まります。今日は日本、アメリカ、そしてオーストラリアから到着される方々を毎時間お迎えします。到着された方々はチェックインの際はまだお疲れのようですが、ビーチやリゾート施設を見た瞬間にいきいきした表情に変わっています。今晩はビーチで最初のイベントが開催されます。今回のリトリートに来れなかった方々にはぜひ来年参加していただきたいと思います。トップリーダーの方々が集うリトリートには何ともいえない楽しさがあります。
スティーブ・ボンズの言葉―
今日は到着日。今朝朝食を食べていたら今度は鳥が私の食事を狙って来ました。もう少しでバターを持っていかれるところでした。その後は、施設内を散策してビデオ撮影に最適なスポットを探しました。（エリックとジェニファーのビデオ撮影用のスポットを探していたんです）そしたら日焼けしてしまいました。
今晩は歓迎レセプションが開かれエリック・ラーセンがクリスタル・ダイヤモンドの皆さまを迎えました。集まった方々は、他のディストリビューターの方や本社幹部の方と語り合う時間を楽しまれていました。とても充実した時間を過ごしていたようです。おいしい食事とタイ音楽の生演奏に加え、ダイヤモンドの皆さまの楽しそうな笑顔がその場を素晴らしい雰囲気で包んでいました。
コーラル・リードの言葉―
今日私はエリカ、ニュージ（エリック・ニュージェントのこと）、そしてスティーブとランチを外で食べていたんですが、そこから見える景色は最高でした。ホテルのプールや独特な植物、そして鳥がパンのくずをつついている光景を見ていると何だか穏やかな気持ちになりました。そんな光景を眺めながら仲間と一緒に食事をして語り合っているととてもリラックスできました。私はサンドイッチを食べていたのですが、口に入れようとしたその瞬間鳥が私に向って飛んできて私の腕に乗ったんです。とてもびっくりしました。鳥の足が私の肌にあたった時は一瞬つつかれたのかなと思いました。だから腕を振り払って鳥に「つつかないでね」と言ったんです。食事中にいきなり鳥が飛んできて、私が鳥に話しかけるなんていう光景は誰にとっても予想外のことでした。幸い私のサンドイッチは無事で、その鳥は私に振り払われただけでなくその後お店のウェイターにも追いかけられていましたよ。その際の写真を添付しました。
今晩の歓迎レセプションは順調でした。皆さん友人との再会や新しい出会いなどを楽しまれていたようです。タイの伝統的な音楽やタイ料理がその場を盛り上げていました。セレモニーに参加された皆さんには、タイで一流のシルク職人として知られるジム・トンプソンによるシルクの象に加え今回のイベントのため特別にデザインされたネクタイとスカーフなどが入ったギフトバッグがプレゼントされました。

What Happened on Saturday May 23:
Steve spent the day filming — gathering footage for a variety of media projects the company is working on. He had the chance to travel to Bangkok and tour a Durian plantation. The rugby-ball-sized, spiky durian fruit looks intimidating. It’s the kind of fruit that you don’t want to be standing beneath when it plummets to the earth from its lofty tree. If Isaac Newton had been sitting beneath a durian tree instead of an apple tree, the falling fruit might have finished off poor Newton instead of inspiring him to figure out the laws of gravitational force.
In any case, Steve braved the perils of the durian forest and survived. Here are some images from that trip, including a funny “NO DURIAN” sign. Raw durian can have a strong, sulphuric aroma, and many hotels and other establishments in Thailand won’t allow people to bring in the raw fruit with them into the building. (That’s the excuse, anyway. Personally, I think they won’t allow you to pack a spiky durian becauase it’s considered a concealed weapon.)
Steve Bons says –
Eric Nugent and I went to the Durian groves outside of Bangkok to take some photos and video. It was about 2 hrs from the airport. It was great to be able to see and pick tropical fruit straight from the tree and sample it. We flew there at 7:30 a.m. and got back at 12:00 am. Got a lot of great shots. It was very hot. It rained for a little bit so we took advantage of it, and got some great shots of fruit with the rain.
On the way home we stopped at a roadside food place to grab something to eat, but lasted only about 5 minutes there. There were so many flies and they seemed to be multiplying by the second. By the time we left, there were about 8-10 flies constantly on my plate that I kept trying to keep at bay with little success. I thought they were going to fly off with my dinner, or maybe even me. We left that place and got something to eat at a hotel closer to the airport. It was much better, and there were no flies. Jet lag, however, struck again: As we were wrapping up our second dinner, I couldn’t keep my eyes open. That happens when I stop working for the night, and I just about did a face-plant in my food again.

５月２３日。
この日スティーブは、ニューウエイズで進めている様々なメディアプロジェクトのためのビデオ撮影に１日を費やしました。また、彼はバンコクへ行きドリアン農園も訪れました。ラグビーボールのサイズの刺々しいドリアンは、見た目は近寄りがたいかもしれません。ましてや、高い木に実がなるドリアンが地面に落下する際その真下には絶対いたくはありませんよね。考えてみたんですが、もしアイザック・ニュートンがりんごではなくドリアンの木の下に座っていたら、重力に関する発想を得る前にドリアンの実で気絶していたかもしれません。
とにかく、スティーブは勇ましくドリアンの森を歩き無事に生還しました。その時の写真をいくつか紹介します。１つ面白いがのが「NO DURIAN」（ドリアン持込禁止）のサインなんですが、これは生のドリアンが持つ特有の硫酸系の匂いがきついため、タイのホテルやその他の設備では建物内にこのフルーツを持ち運ぶことが禁止されているんです。（まあ、私が思うにこれは表向きの理由で、本当は刺々しいドリアンが凶器として使われることを避けたいんじゃないでしょうか。）
スティーブ・ボンズの言葉―
私はエリック・ニュージェントと一緒にバンコク郊外にあるドリアンの森へ写真撮影とビデオ撮影のために行ってきました。空港から約２時間ぐらいで着きました。木から直接もぎ取ってその場で食べるトロピカルフルーツの味は格別でした。ドリアンの森へ出発したのは朝の７時半でしたが、帰ってきたのは真夜中の１２時でした。もちろん、たくさんの良いショットが取れましたよ。それにしても暑かったので、小雨が降ったときは助かりました。雨の滴るフルーツのショットも撮れましたしね。
ホテルへ戻る途中お腹が空いていたので道路わきの屋台に立ち寄ったのですが、あまりにもハエが多くて５分も立っていられませんでした。屋台を出るころには私のお皿の回りにハエが１０匹程飛び回っていて、何度追い払っても無駄でした。私のディナーだけでなく私までも攻撃されている気がしました。その場を去って、空港に近いホテルの中で食事をしました。助かったことにハエはそこにはいませんでしたが、この２回目の食事中にまた時差ボケが襲ってきたので眠くて仕方ありませんでした。１日を終えて夜リラックスした気分になるといつもそうなんです。また食事中に居眠りするところでした。

I am now back to work after a three-day weekend, and after checking my email, I see that my friends in Phuket have begun sending me reports on their adventures. I will now take a back seat as I let their words and pictures tell the story of an amazing reward trip for the Crystal Diamonds of Neways.
What Happened on Wednesday May 20 (a travel day for the first wave of Neways corporate employees, who arrive early to prep for the event):
Steve Bons says–
It’s been a long day of travel. Since we (me, Koral, and Erica) left Salt Lake City we’ve been in transit for over 30 hours, the flight from L0s Angeles to Hong Kong being about 13 hours of that. You can only look out at the ocean for so long before you start wondering if you are ever going to see land again. That’s when you hunker down and try to find that sweet spot so that you can get some decent sleep. I finally found that spot with three hours left of travel.
We got to the resort in Phuket, Thailand, at around 6:00 p.m. We cleaned up a little and ended the night with a wonderful dinner of authentic Thai food complete with a whole crispy fish, head and all. It was very good. The resort was quiet…very quiet. The lights were dim, with soft Thai music in the background. We had to keep taking turns waking each other up so we wouldn’t do face-plants in our food. It was tough to stay awake. Well, off to prep the video equipment for an all-day shoot tomorrow in Bangkok.
Jennifer Wolbers says–
As I am arriving in Phuket in the middle of the night it appears that the 36 hours of traveling was worth it, despite the challenges of air travel: bad food, little sleep, and cramped seats. From what I have seen the hotel is amazing. The rooms are definitely out of some tour brochure for a 5-Star Hotel, and the pools here have a very mysterious appeal with the night lights and moonlit sparkle reflecting on their tranquil waters. I can’t wait for everyone to arrive so the fun can begin!

３連休を終えて仕事に戻ってきたクリス・イエーツです。Ｅメールをチェックしたら、プーケットに滞在中の私の同僚から、現場報告のリポートが送られてきていました。では彼らから送られてきたリポート内容と写真で、ニューウエイズのクリスタル・ダイヤモンドの素晴らしい旅行内容を一部紹介したいと思います。
5月20日水曜日（クリスタル・ダイヤモンド・リトリート開催準備のためにニューウエイズ本社スタッフ第一陣が出発）
スティーブ・ボンズは次のように語っています―
プーケットまでは、長旅でした。私達（私、コーラル、そしてエリカ）がソルトレーク空港を出発してから３０時間以上が経過しています。そのうちの１３時間はロサンゼルスから香港までの飛行時間に費やしました。空から海を眺めているのにもしまいには飽きて、地上に降りるのが待ち遠しくなりました。そんな時は、睡眠を取って快適に過ごすのが一番です。最後の３時間になってやっと眠ることができました。
タイのリゾート地、プーケットには夕方６時頃着きました。必要な手続きを済ませ、夜は魚などを使った本場のタイ料理を堪能しました。とてもおいしかったです。ホテルは薄暗い照明のセッティング加えタイのやわらかい音楽が背景に流れ、とても落ち着いた雰囲気でした・・・。食事中は居眠りしないよう必死にお互いをつつきあってました。目を開けているのがやっとでした・・・。では、明日バンコクで一日中撮影があるので、僕はいまからその準備に取りかかります。

プーケットには夜中に着きましたが、ここは３６時間という飛行時間、そしてとてもおいしいとはいえない機内食や眠りにくい環境、そして窮屈な座席を全て忘れさせてくれる素敵なところです。ホテルもとても素晴らしいです。部屋の設備は５つ星ホテルにふさわしく、また月夜に照らされて光が反射するホテル内のプールも、神秘的な雰囲気を醸し出しています。皆さんががここに到着して、共に楽しい時間を過ごせるのを心待ちにしています。

Those who have read my event blogs from last year’s trips to Las Vegas and Hawaii will know this about me: I am a voracious addict of Diet Mountain Dew. In fact, my blood is more Dew than human now, I’m sure.
So when Koral told me that there was no Diet Dew to be found in Thailand (she’s also an avid fan of the nectar), I wept like a child.
Now, as it turns out, I won’t be travelling to Thailand, which is a bummer. However, if there is a silver lining—a bright spot—to be found in all this, it is the fact that I will remain close to a supply of Diet Mt. Dew, which means my body will not go into Dew-shock after being deprived of the stuff. (Dew-shock is not pretty. It’s happened to me before. First I begin to twitch. Then shriek. Then, I ricochet around the room like rabid humming bird. Finally, I am dropped mid-ricochet as my body falls into a sudden coma. Sometimes, mid-coma, I begin to mumble the theme song from the 1980s cartoon, The Smurfs. This is not good for anyone. I’m glad none of you have to witness it.)

去年のラスベガスとハワイでのイベントで私のブログを読んだことのある方は、私がダイエット・マウンテンデューに病みつきなことをご存知だと思います。私の体の中には血液よりもマウンテンデューの方が多く流れてるんじゃないかと思うくらいです。
ですから、コーラルが（ちなみに彼女もマウンテンデューの大ファンなんですが）タイにはダイエット・マウンテンデューがないと教えてくれたときは、実にがっかりしました。
どちらにせよ私はタイへは行かないことになりました。とても残念ですが、ダイエット・マウンテンデューが好きなだけ飲めるということがなぐさめになっています。このドリンクがないと私の体はデュー・ショックに陥ってしまうんです。（デュー・ショックは以前経験したことがあるんですが、とてもお勧めできません。デュー・ショックの症状は体の軽いけいれんから始まります。次に叫び声が出ます。そして、ハチドリのようにあちらこちら動き回ってしまいます。最後には、危篤状態に陥ります。危篤状態のときにどうやら私は１９８０年代のアニメ、「スマーフ」のテーマソングをつぶやきだすみたいです。デュー・ショックは本当に大変です。誰もそんな私を見たくないでしょうね）

And so it was, friends and neighbors, that Chris the Blogger experienced a slight change of plans: I will not be traveling to Phuket for the Crystal Diamond Retreat. I’ve had something come up.
I will miss hanging out with you — I’ve gotten to know many of you and I was looking forward to renewing those friendships. I was also looking forward to getting to know even more Diamonds, too. While I’m a bit glum about it all, my wife is glad that she won’t be wrangling our four kids by herself for the next two weeks.
Despite this change in my travel plans, Koral and Erica have asked me to continue helping with the blog. So I will.
I have enlisted my minions to send me photos of all the events at the Crystal Retreat, and I have asked guest-bloggers to send their daily impressions of their time in Phuket. Occasionally, I may post a photo of me in my cubicle so you will get a good feel for what it’s NOT like in Phuket.
To begin, I’ll post a photo of my minion, Steve Bons, who will be in Phuket sea kayaking, strolling the pristine beach, feasting, riding elephants, and much more. Here is Steve in his natural habitat with me pestering him.

さて皆さん、実はブロガーの私クリスはちょっとしたスケジュールの変更に伴い、急にプーケットには行かないことになりました。
皆さんと旅行することができなくなり、とても残念です。知り合った方々と交友を温め、もっとたくさんの方々とも知り合う機会を楽しみにしてたのですが・・・。落胆してる私をよそに、２週間四人の子供をひとりで見ることになっていた家内はうれしそうです。
プーケットには行かないことになりましたが、コーラルとエリカにブログを続けてほしいと頼まれましたので、このままブログは続行します。
かくして私は自分の手先たちにクリスタルリトリートでの写真を逐一送るように指示し、またゲストブロガーにプーケットから日記を送るよう頼みました。私は時々会社にいる自分の写真をＵＰし、プーケットにはない楽しい写真もご覧いただこうと思っています。
